Attempt for illegitimate MA admission to SFI leader in Kannur Varsity; Move to amend the 63 years rule

Kerala (VSK). Protests mount against attempt to change the 63 years old rule to accord MA admission to a SFI leader. According to the changed rule, BCom graduates can get admission for English literature.

Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) alleges that Vice Chancellor Dr. Gopinath Raveendran has conducted a meeting of the English teachers in this connection. Kannur Varsity is exercising a deviation which no other varsity in the state has not done so far. SUCC alleges that haste is to favour a SFI leader who passed BCom and seeks MA (English Lit) under Sports Quota.

Kannur Varsity attempts to change the rule all varsities in the state have been following since 1960. SUCC says, SFI leader, from Kasargod Government College, had submitted a special application before the VC requesting for MA (Lit) admission. And, consequently, emergency actions initiated. Changing the rule was discussed in the online curriculum meeting, of the English teachers, convened by the VC. SUCC alleges, efforts are geared up to facilitate MA (Lit) admission for BCom graduates who have studied English only for a year during the course.

SUCC has come up with the demand to put an end to the efforts of a single university to introduce illegitimate rules, under political pressure, which can only degrade the standard of postgraduate courses. SUCC has submitted memorandums before the Higher Education Minister and Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Council in this regard. Recently, Kasargod Government College principal M. Rema was transferred for allegedly taking a stand that SFI workers use drugs. SUCC allege that SFI leader took initiative for engineering principal’s transfer.

If Kannur model is going to materialise, it will be another effort to degrade the academic standard in the state. The state is already demoralised due to several incidents like, passing sans appearing for the examinations, getting MCom admission without passing BCom, getting jobs in the colleges with the support of the fabricated experience certificate, impersonation in the college union, elections, forgery of NEET examination results, etc. etc… Apparently, the accused in all these cases are SFI leaders or workers.
