Manipur – Seva and relief, rehabilitation activities

Imphal. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Manipur has continued its seva activities in different parts of the state, which has been marred by the ongoing attack for nearly three months.

For the affected people of the ongoing violence, whose houses were burnt down by armed Kuki militants, RSS Manipur Prant in association with Seva Samiti Manipur has been running a model relief camp since June 17, 2023, at Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Skill Development Centre (RBSDC), Haraorou, Imphal East.

In the relief centre, 110 people including children from Leitanpokpi, Ikou, Sadu Lampak, Sadu Yengkhuman of Imphal East and other parts of the affected areas of Manipur have been staying. In association with various civil organizations RSS has also been conducting various capacity and skill development trainings for the affected people at the model relief centre.

As part of seva activities and to support the livelihood post-violence, the Manipur unit of RSS and Seva Samiti has been in association with premier institutes like the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development and Central Agricultural University, Imphal for conducting skill development and self-employment activities continuously.

The inmates of the model relief camp were given training on candle making, mushroom cultivation, basket and agarbatti making with the two premier institutes and Humanism Foundation, a non-profit organization working in the field of skill development, capacity building and incubation, mentoring and entrepreneurship.

Besides, RSS Manipur has also been associated with Romi Bag Industry, a leading shoe, leather and apparel manufacturing industry in Manipur, for providing free training on shoe making and placement of the trained inmates in different locations of the industry.

Proprietor of Romi Bag Industry, Khumbongmayum Dhanachandra Singh has also donated 50 school bags for children staying at the relief camp run by RSS and Seva Samiti, Manipur. Since the violence broke out on 3 May 2023, swayamsevaks have been engaging in various relief and rehabilitation works across the state.

As per reports, the violence has claimed nearly 200 lives and displaced around lakh people. Senior RSS functionaries are in constant monitoring of the situation and supervising various relief, rehabilitation and seva activities.

A team led by Laishram Jatra Singh, State executive member, RSS Manipur visited Khoijumantabi and other sensitive areas under Bishnupur on July 6. During the visit, the team also met family members of Ningombam Ibomcha, Haobam Ibocha and Naorem Rajkumar of Khoijumantabi, who were killed by militants on July 2 and handed over Rs 10,000 along with essential commodities to the next of kin of each victim.

Seva Samiti Manipur have distributed around 400 bags of rice, 500 kg of dal, 500 ltr of edible oil, 500 kg of salt, essential commodities like mosquito net, dress, vegetables, reading materials for school/college going students. Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur has also launched a free education scheme for the children of affected families of violence in Manipur. So far, the Samiti has adopted 60 students, which consist of 28 boys and 32 girls and provides free residential schooling at Bal Bidya Mandir, Palace Compound, Imphal.
