Waqf board atrocities!

Erode. Anganakaundan Puthur is located in Komarapalayam Panchayat of Sathyamangalam Circle of Erode District. In the year 1980, the Arundhatia people living along the Perumpallam stream in this village were allotted a replacement in the same area.

The Adi Dravidar Welfare Department has allotted 3 cents each to build a house for 73 families on this three-and-a-half-acre land. Villagers are shocked as they have built a house in this place and have been living there for 40 years, claiming that this land belongs to the Waqf Board and are being denied title change, deed registration etc.

Regarding this, Pandian from Anganakoundan Pudur said, when we were living on the banks of Perumpallam stream, when we were affected by the flood, this place was reserved. A Government Patta signed by the Tehsildar of Adi Dravidian Welfare Department was issued.

With this, we took a loan of Rs. 2,500 each from the Gobi Cooperative Society and with the cooperation of the Panchayat administration we built houses and named them Periyar Nagar and have been living there for 40 years. Our houses are provided with water connection and electricity connection. We are also paying house tax in our name. In this case, when a resident died, his son went to transfer the title of the land to his name, and was asked to get the deed from the deed department.

When we applied at the Sathyamangalam deed registry office, we were told, ‘The land on which your house is situated belongs to the Waqf Board. Therefore, they said that they can get the certificate only if they get the clearance certificate from them.

Suddenly, they are now saying that the land of the house that they have been living in for the last 40 years belongs to the Waqf Board. We are shocked by this announcement from the Deeds Registry.

The affected people, who live in Anganakoundan Pudur, belong to the Arundhatiyar community. 100 day work scheme, those who make a living by going to agricultural wage labour. The information that they do not own the house they live in has left them in agony.
