Kerala – Anti-Hindu death slogans raised by Muslim League Members; 5 arrested after outrage

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In a shocking incident, members of the Muslim League raised rational anti-Hindu slogans, threatening to “Hang You in Front of Temples and Burn You.”

In Kanhangad, Kasargod district, a rally organized by the Muslim League, a constituent of the Congress-led UPA alliance, has sparked controversy and protests. During the rally, Muslim League members were seen raising provocative anti-Hindu death slogans, including death threat slogans of hanging and burning Hindu believers in front of temples.

Disturbing video footage of these slogans circulated widely on social media, prompting concern among Hindu believers and the BJP, who emphasized the importance of maintaining secular values in the country.

The timing of the slogans was particularly distressing to many as they were raised during the Hindu holy month of ‘Karkidakam’, also known as ‘Ramayana Masam’. The BJP accused the CPI(M)-led LDF government of supporting such radicalism, leading to an assertion that Kerala is becoming a breeding ground for radicalism.

The BJP criticized both the Youth League and the Muslim League, significant allies of the Congress-led UDF opposition in Kerala, for their association with the rally and its controversial slogans.

The issue gained attention at the national level, with several BJP leaders criticizing the Kerala government for not upholding secular principles and allegedly providing silent support for radical elements.

Following multiple complaints, the Hosdurg police have taken action, registering a case based on the complaint filed by BJP Kanhangad constituency president Prashanth.

As a result, five individuals associated with the Muslim League and Youth League, namely Abdul Salam (18), Sharif (38), Ashir (25), Ayub PH (45), and P. Muhammad Kunhi (55), have been arrested.

They have been charged under Section 153A of the IPC, which addresses acts promoting enmity between different religious or social groups and acts prejudicial to communal harmony.
